Small Free Software/Scripts and configuration
Configuration
- squid configuration to keep your privacy safe. Quite useful if you want to setup at home/work a specific proxy for anonymized connection.
- Mutt configuration : dot.muttrc.
- Emacs configuration : dot.emacs.
- Procmail configuration : dot.procmailrc.
- Dec Server 700 Configuration: a small document, on how to configure the DecServer in order to have a terminal server for the serial hosts.
Scripts
- A patch for spamproxyd (a standalone perl daemon to use with Postfix and SpamAssassin) for supporting maximun size of message to check.
- Multicast to broadcast a small perl application that sniffs network (with a specific filter) to convert multicast UDP packet into broadcast UDP. This could be useful for some proprietary software using multiple method of broadcasting packet.
- A small perl script to reinject mail into Postfix (useful with amavis).
- misc scripts a collection of scripts and tools, I have made (or patched) and use daily.
Various Comments regarding freedom and information society
Some comments, I have made around some specific issue about Freedom and the Information Society :
- No compromise on Privacy ! (a small comment about privacy in french)
- Microsoft benelux point of view on standards. I have also a small collection of document done by the company against Free Software or it's ethical approach.
- A letter to the Belgian Prime Minister about the EUCD (European Copyright Directive). The situation is now handled by the AEL (Association Electronique Libre).
- A letter to the INS regarding privacy around the private information collected by the belgian government for statistics.
- An open letter about the issue of the 'VRRP' patent registered by Cisco Inc. Another example on how the patent system is bad for innovation and standardization. The information is quite outdated and there is a patent-free implementation called CARP done by the OpenBSD guys and that seems to be patent-free. The VRRP should be updated this information and the various ref. and information on the subject.
- A small old comment on a belgian project law about computer crime. This is now a law. The law generates various issues.
Daily Mantra
"All information should be free", Steven Levy (1984, in Hackers, Heroes of the Computer Revolution)
The belief, sometimes taken unconditionally, that information should be free was a direct tribute to the way a splendid computer, or computer program, works--the binary bits moving in the most straightforward, logical path necessary to do their complex job, What was a computer but something which benefited from a free flow of information? If, say, the accumulator found itself unable to get information from the input/output (i/o) devices like the tape reader or the switches, the whole system would collapse. In the hacker viewpoint, any system could benefit from that easy flow of information.
